Anticipating a power shortfall, the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) has invited bids from traders and generators for short‑term electricity purchases from November 2026 through January 2027, the outlet reported.
The tender outlines nine procurement arrangements, including round‑the‑clock (RTC) supply and two six‑hour peak‑hour blocks. For November, TNPDCL seeks 600 MW of RTC power plus 400 MW each for the midnight‑6 am and 6 pm‑midnight periods. December’s demand drops to 300 MW RTC and 200 MW for each peak block, while January calls for 1,200 MW RTC and 800 MW for each six‑hour slot. Minimum bid size is set at 20 MW, and peak‑hour offers must be at least 60 % of the RTC volume.
A TNPDCL official told the New Indian Express that the advance procurement aims to avoid buying power at higher rates during the expected shortage.
