Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay hosted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for lunch at his Neelankarai residence on Saturday, the first meeting since the TVK‑led Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance was created in Tamil Nadu.
Gandhi arrived at Chennai airport from Delhi, was greeted by Vijay, and was accompanied by AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir and TN Congress president Manickam Tagore. Sources said the two leaders discussed the current political situation and the alliance’s future for about an hour.
After lunch they travelled together to 7Padel Cafe, owned by cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, before Gandhi proceeded to the Island Grounds for a student interaction programme. The meeting comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Chennai.
