Punjab Congress leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring met former party president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday and formally handed over his resignation as state party chief, PTI reported.

Warring, who has led the Punjab unit for over four years, resigned ahead of assembly polls due early next year, amid a longstanding infight within the state unit. The Congress recently replaced its AICC in‑charge, appointing Sachin Pilot in place of Bhupesh Baghel, and former state minister Vijay Inder Singla is already positioned as a frontrunner for the post.Earlier Felo coverage noted Singla’s chair of the election‑management committee and the leadership change aimed at uniting rival factions.

After the meeting, Warring told reporters, “I met Rahul Gandhi and formally gave him my resignation… He gave me a lot of love and sought information about the current political situation in Punjab.” He added that he discussed the party’s challenges and strengths and affirmed his readiness to serve the party whenever required.
