Tamil Nadu minister claims SIR roll‑back would have given TVK 170 seats

Minister Nirmal Kumar blames the SIR exercise for TVK's loss of seats, citing alleged voter deletions by the DMK.

Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) could have won more than 170 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu if the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had not been implemented.

Speaking to media in Madurai, Kumar asserted that his party was the only one to oppose the SIR exercise, highlighting “mistakes and deletions” and noting that protests were allowed only with police permission.

Kumar alleged that during the DMK’s tenure, officials overseeing the SIR removed large numbers of voters, transferring voter lists from DMK offices to the field, which he claimed cost TVK the seats.

He also pointed to a shift of AIADMK voters toward TVK in the Dharapuram constituency, which he said pushed TVK to third place behind the DMK.
