AIADMK general secretary and former chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami expressed gratitude to voters in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly constituencies after the party’s candidates won the October 6 by‑elections, according to Deccan Chronicle.
Palaniswami said the by‑elections were triggered by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) coalition’s attempts to poach AIADMK legislators and turn its minority status into a majority. He claimed TVK used “immense money, administrative authority, and muscle power” by deploying the entire state cabinet to secure victory.
The AIADMK chief alleged that false cases were filed against the party’s Dharapuram candidate and cadres, a district secretary was unlawfully detained, and party functionaries were pressured to switch sides.
He thanked alliance partners – BJP, AMMK, New Justice Party, IJK, Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi and Tamil Maanila Muslim League – as well as AIADMK grassroots workers, legislators and senior office bearers, invoking former chief minister Jayalalithaa’s words about the party’s deep roots.
