On October 10, 2026, Delhi police detained AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, and several senior party members during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Banerjee told reporters after her detention that her party had staged a peaceful protest and that "we don't care, we're not afraid. Everyone knows what's happening in the country. The battle will go on." The police also held senior AAP leader Gopal Rai, who was protesting outside the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Chandigarh, and earlier detained Manish Sisodia and Punjab AAP workers for similar actions.
According to the AAP, police beat a protester captured on video and have now detained nearly 500 demonstrators, including CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, as they attempted to reach Jantar Mantar.
