Scroll reporter Ayush Tiwari was taken into custody by Delhi police on Saturday near ITO while covering a youth‑led demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the outlet reported. Tiwari, who displayed his press card prominently, told officers repeatedly that he was a journalist, but was placed in a police van and removed from the scene. "I literally shouted out to say I am a journalist," he said, adding that police replied, "everyone is claiming to be a journalist." The protest, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party and left‑aligned student groups, was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Jantar Mantar, though police denied permission and imposed restrictions including metro closures and internet suspension. Hundreds of protesters were also detained that morning.
