Top leaders of the INDIA bloc of opposition parties are set to meet in New Delhi on Wednesday to finalise a joint agitation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Regulation (SIR) exercise and to discuss a draft notice seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, New Indian Express reported.
The meeting will include Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretaries Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal, Trinamool Congress leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, and representatives from the SP, CPI, CPI(M), NCP and Shiv Sena (UBT). The DMK and AAP have said they will not attend, while SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will miss the session due to Rajya Sabha election nominations but will send representatives.
K. C. Venugopal told reporters that the bloc will coordinate its agitation programme with Congress and that discussions will also cover attempts to bring the DMK and AAP on board. He said the meeting aims to produce a clear action plan for future protests to “save democracy”.
