Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass holds a 12‑point lead over challenger Nithya Raman among Latino voters, according to a poll released Friday, the New York Post reported.
What happened
The BSP Research poll was conducted Oct. 1‑8 among 602 Latino voters and shows Bass at 40% support, Raman at 28%, with 32% undecided. Bass’s advantage is strongest among Spanish‑speaking respondents, where she leads by 32 points. Older Latinos (age 50+) favored Raman 53% to 17% for Bass, while voters under 40 were evenly split at 35% each.
What the reports add
The poll contrasts with a UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies/Los Angeles Times poll conducted Sept. 15‑20 and published Oct. 2, which gave Raman a 45% to 21% lead over Bass. The New York Post notes the newer poll’s regional breakdown: Bass leads in downtown LA, South Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, while Raman leads in West Los Angeles. East Los Angeles remains the most undecided area, with 44% of respondents still choosing.
What was said
Former Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, who endorsed Bass, called the poll “showing real momentum heading into the final weeks of the campaign.” The Post also recorded a comment from Matt Barreto, who leads BSP Research, though he was not quoted directly.
How it came about
The poll was commissioned by Unidos Con Karen Bass, an independent‑expenditure group supporting the incumbent. It follows a heated campaign period in which the candidates have debated police policy, immigration enforcement and Raman’s appearance in a deleted social‑media video.
