Naidu sets Nov. 15 deadline for Andhra Pradesh local body elections

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu told AP ministers and legislators on Oct. 10 that the state’s local body elections must be completed by Nov. 15, 2026, according to Deccan Chronicle.
Naidu announced the deadline after a cabinet meeting in Vijayawada and a separate session with his ministers in Amaravati. He said district‑level ministers would be tasked with securing victories for the three‑party NDA alliance of Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and BJP, even though the exact poll schedule has not yet been released.
The CM revisited backward‑class (BC) reservations, recalling that the N. T. Rama Rao government set a 24% quota, later raised to 34% by his own party. He blamed YSR Congress president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s decision to strike down the 34% quota, alleging the YSRC failed to challenge the verdict in the Supreme Court and has been filing court cases to block its implementation. Naidu said his government will now allocate the 34% reservation on a party basis.
He also referenced the Rajiv Ranjan Mishra Commission’s findings on BC reservations and mentioned the proposal to use electoral rolls prepared after the Special Intensive Revision. In response to El Niño‑related water deficits, Naidu said the state had stored sufficient water in reservoirs and urged ministers to prevent hardships.
Funds of ₹1 crore per constituency will be released to MLAs on Monday and Tuesday for constituency development works.
