GVMC commissioner orders final preparations for 2026 municipal election

Visakhapatnam – GVMC commissioner and additional election authority Ketan Garg told officials on Saturday to finish preparations for the second ordinary Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections scheduled for 2026.

Garg said 18,37,901 voters will cast ballots at 1,990 polling stations across 120 wards. Training for returning officers and assistant returning officers is complete, while presiding and polling officers will be trained on October 13‑14.

He ordered the setup of drinking water, toilets, electricity, ramps and wheelchairs at each station and urged coordination with APSRTC and transport authorities. Of the stations, 91 are hyper‑sensitive, 313 sensitive, 393 critical and 1,193 normal, requiring police liaison and security measures. Garg emphasized strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct and transparency throughout the process.
