Congress Punjab in‑charge Sachin Pilot used his X account on Friday to congratulate former hockey captain and Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh on his appointment as president of the Punjab Congress Committee, according to an ANI feed reported by News18.
Pilot said he hoped Singh would lead the party to an "outstanding performance" in the 2027 Punjab assembly elections and would carry forward the vision of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi with "complete dedication and loyalty".
The appointment, which replaces Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, was formalised by an official notification signed by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal and took effect immediately.
In his post, Pilot also thanked Raja Warring for his "tireless hard work and invaluable contributions" to the party’s organisation during his tenure. The party’s statement echoed this gratitude, noting that the outgoing president’s contributions were appreciated and that working presidents, chairpersons and co‑chairpersons of various election‑related committees would retain their roles.
Raja Warring, who resigned on Friday, also posted a congratulatory message to Singh on X, wishing him success in the new role.
Earlier in the day, Warring had suggested that Pilot, as the AICC state in‑charge, might be shaping the party’s strategy for Punjab, though he said he had not met Pilot since a brief conversation after his own appointment.
