Punjab promotes cultural heritage as tourism hub, says minister

The province aims to develop 170 heritage sites and new museums under the "Magnificent Punjab" vision.

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb told dailytimes.com.pk on World Tourism Day that the province is advancing a "Magnificent Punjab" vision to develop cultural heritage and tourism.

She said mapping of 170 priority heritage sites has been completed and restoration work is under way at sites including Taxila, Rohtas Fort, Harappa, Hiran Minar and several Cholistan forts such as Derawar and Jamgarh.

Aurangzeb added that new museums are being built in Multan, Harappa and Sialkot, and that the Punjab Tourism and Heritage Authority has been made functional.

She noted that Hiran Minar and Harappa have been placed on UNESCO’s tentative list and that biodiversity parks at Changa Manga and Bansera Gali are nearing completion.
