Vancouver Police Department officers spent more than an hour trying to coax a shirtless man out of the ceiling of a Macy’s store in Vancouver, Washington, before he fell onto a mattress they had placed below and was subsequently arrested.
What happened
Employees reported seeing a man crawling above their heads on Sept. 30, breaking ceiling tiles, light fixtures and wiring. Police entered the overhead space, set up a ladder and a mattress, and urged the intruder to come down. After briefly stepping onto the ladder, the man, identified as Gabriel Hideo, tried to climb back up and then fell, hitting the ladder before landing on the mattress.

The department posted on Facebook that the suspect “landed on the mattress, got up and tried to run. That didn’t work out so well.” The footage shows Hideo rolling on the floor before officers cuffed him.
