Google announced on 8 October that it has chosen 15 South African startups for the 2026 Google for Startups Accelerator. The companies will receive hands‑on access to Google Cloud, AI models such as Gemini, mentorship from Google engineers and up to R1 million in equity‑free funding.
The cohort, selected from 1,057 applications, spans sectors including education, financial services, legal services, healthcare, mobility, retail and supply chains. Notable participants are Ambani Africa, which builds AI tools for learning African languages, Buddy Learning, an AI tutor delivered via WhatsApp, Boleka Africa, Kasicoach, Zumii and Anvaya Legal AI, among others.
The hybrid programme runs from 28 September to 4 December and ends with a Demo Day where founders pitch to investors. Kabelo Makwane, Google South Africa’s country director, said the accelerator aims to support local founders building products for the South African market.
