Spotify launches native car app for Audi drivers
The new app, co‑developed with Audi and Cariad, is free to download but limited to certain Audi models in 47 markets.

Spotify has introduced its first native car application that runs directly on Audi's infotainment system, eliminating the need for a phone or cable. The app is currently available only to Audi owners of 2026 and newer models, according to Digital Trends.
What happened
The service, built on Android Automotive OS – the operating system that powers Audi's dashboard – allows users to sign in once via QR code or pairing code and then stream music without a phone connection. It supports both Free and Premium Spotify accounts and is downloadable from Audi’s Application Store. The rollout covers 47 markets and includes the Q6 e‑tron, A6 e‑tron, Q5, A5 and A6 models. Future releases will add the Q7 and Q9, with other automakers expected to follow next year.
What the reports add
Digital Trends notes that the native integration lets Spotify create a custom interface rather than using Google’s standard Android Auto templates. The app resumes playback exactly where the driver left off each time the car starts, and while parked or charging the main display can show video podcasts and music videos with synced lyrics. During driving, videos and lyrics disappear, but voice commands (“Hey Audi”) and Spotify’s AI‑driven DJ remain active. In vehicles equipped with a front‑passenger display, videos and lyrics can continue for passengers, and a QR‑code scan lets them join a Spotify Jam.
What was said
Digital Trends reports that Spotify says listeners spend more than three billion hours a month in cars, underscoring the appeal of a fully integrated solution.
How it came about
The app is the result of a collaboration between Spotify, Audi and Cariad, the software arm behind Android Automotive OS. It follows Spotify’s broader push into automotive experiences, complementing its recent launch of a developer‑tools portal (see Felo’s coverage of that launch). The native app marks a step beyond the projected Android Auto model, aiming to deliver richer, car‑specific features.
