ServiceNow adds AI‑built assistants and low‑code tool to EmployeeWorks platform

The new features let employees design role‑specific AI assistants and developers build tools in minutes, according to ServiceNow.

ServiceNow announced on Wednesday that its EmployeeWorks platform now includes Productivity Assistants, Productivity Routines and a new development environment called ToolSmith, enabling employees and developers to create AI agents without writing code.

What happened

The enhancements were unveiled in a press release on 19 October 2026. Productivity Assistants let users customise AI helpers for specific tasks, with two ready‑made assistants – a Research Assistant that gathers information and creates documents, and a Calendaring Assistant that handles scheduling conflicts and meeting logistics. Planned HR‑focused assistants include Talent Insights, HR Business Partner and Manager assistants.

Productivity Routines let users describe repeatable tasks so AI agents can execute them automatically in the background. ServiceNow cites a sales leader who could automate account research and presentation generation before client meetings as an example.

ToolSmith, described as an “agentic development environment,” allows developers to build and refine AI tools for EmployeeWorks using natural‑language instructions. It is trained on more than 75,000 APIs and can handle integration planning, testing and optimisation, reducing development cycles from weeks to minutes.

What was said

"AI’s real promise is to close the gap between intention and action," Jacqui Canney, chief people and AI enablement officer at ServiceNow, told Express Computer. "ServiceNow EmployeeWorks enables employees to spend less time on coordination and more time solving customer problems that require human judgement."

How it came about

The rollout follows ServiceNow’s broader push to embed generative AI across its workflow products. Earlier this year the company introduced a third‑generation employee‑centric AI model that combines context, reasoning, memory and governed workflows. The new Conversations API also lets organisations embed EmployeeWorks capabilities into existing applications, kiosks and other AI environments without re‑architecting systems.
