The mortal remains of veteran actor Nana Patekar arrived at his farmhouse in Donje village late on Thursday night, where more than 1,000 people had gathered to pay their respects. Patekar, who died in Goa in the early hours of Thursday at age 75, was cremated with full state honours on the outskirts of Pune.
Police personnel accorded a 21‑gun salute and his son, Malhar Patekar, performed the last rites. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid respects at Pune airport before the procession moved by road to Donje. Several businesses around Khadakwasla closed for the day.
The ceremony featured a marching band, a raised platform, a tent for dignitaries and a large screen for the public. Attendees included Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, Union Ministers Murlidhar Mohol and Ramdas Athawale, state ministers Chandrakant Patil, Uday Samant and Madhuri Misal, NCP state chief Sunil Tatkare, and actors Pravin Tarde and Kiran Yadnyopavit.
Patekar’s legacy also encompassed his work with farmers; in 2015 he co‑founded the Naam Foundation with actor Makarand Anaspure to aid drought‑hit communities in Maharashtra.
