Italian public broadcaster RAI announced on Monday that it has purchased three international drama series from sales company Beta Film in advance of the Mipcom market.

What happened

The package includes the 12‑episode U.S.–Canadian procedural "Barton Vet," the four‑part French thriller "A Guilty Affair," and the six‑episode German period drama "Mozart Mozart." All three are described as female‑led projects.

What the reports add

Variety notes that the deals are financially backed by France Télévisions and Germany’s ARD, two of Europe’s largest public broadcasters. The article also highlights that "Barton Vet" stars Georgina Reilly as Dr. Kate Barton and is produced by Shaftesbury with BYUtv, while "A Guilty Affair" follows a high‑school principal searching for her missing daughter and is produced by France Télévisions, Episode Productions, Be‑Films and RTBF. "Mozart Mozart" is billed as a fresh re‑imagining of the Mozart legacy and is produced by WDR and Story House Pictures.

What was said

Variety reported that the acquisitions demonstrate how public broadcasters continue to drive a large share of European content orders despite tightening budgets.

How it came about

RAI’s move follows a broader industry trend of public networks securing internationally‑sourced, female‑centric series, a theme echoed in Felo’s recent coverage of women‑focused film initiatives such as the Chanel Through Her Lens luncheon (see article).
