Kit Harington will portray Gilderoy Lockhart in the second season of HBO's Harry Potter television series, replacing Nicholas Hoult, the outlet reported on October 9.
Harington, 39, first disclosed his excitement at the premiere of his adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. He said the production is "doing the original books more than justice" and praised the craftsmanship, noting the use of advanced technology and AI.
The change was announced on the official Harry Potter Instagram account, which explained the switch as "a slight change due to schedule." Hoult, 36, had originally been confirmed in August to play the flamboyant professor.
Harington added, "I’m feeling really excited about it… it is extraordinary the kind of craftsmanship that’s on work in that show." The first season, starring Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton as the core trio, is set to launch this Christmas.
