Grimes has issued the first song from her forthcoming AI‑themed album Psy Opera, the single titled “Accelerando,” Pitchfork reported on Oct. 9, 2026.
What happened
The lead track arrives with a press release describing the album’s ambition to address topics ranging from artificial‑intelligence debates to “immoral wars,” “bad exes,” “looksmaxers” and the “importance of religion.” The song features lyrics such as “American lobotomy ya a a a/Accelerando/Better than a Van Gogh?/Eat me if u wanna ya yayaya.”

Grimes, a longtime AI advocate, told PBS’s A Brief History of the Future in 2024 that AI is an “opportunity” for musicians. She added, “When everyone has the same tools that can make professional quality stuff, then you get to see the actual talent, like, really rise to the top.”
How it came about
Psy Opera will be Grimes’ first release on her own label, Nazgul Recording LLC, after leaving Columbia. The album follows her 2020 record Miss Anthropocene and continues her exploration of futuristic concepts.
