Figure robots jump into molten steel in Finland after online suggestion

AI robotics startup Figure decommissioned its two‑year‑old F.02 humanoid robots by training them to jump into a vat of molten steel at a foundry in Imatra, Finland, after a suggestion from Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger on X, the social‑media platform.
Founder and chief executive Brett Adcock posted on X asking for ideas on how to give the robots a "proper sendoff". Schwarzenegger replied, "You should melt them," prompting Figure to contact metal foundries in the US and Mexico, which declined to handle lithium‑ion‑battery‑laden robots. The company then shipped the units to Finland, where intensive training enabled the robots to perform the jump.
Figure said in a blog post that dismantling the robots piece by piece would delay the launch of its next‑generation F.04 model, so the molten‑steel method was chosen as a faster way to protect proprietary hardware.
