Destro AI raises $8 million to layer intelligence over warehouse robots and workers
The startup’s AI platform aims to improve picking and packing by directing both machines and people, according to its founders and a logistics partner.

Destro AI, a stealth‑mode startup that emerged on Tuesday, announced an $8 million seed round and an artificial‑intelligence layer designed to synchronize warehouse robots with human workers.
What happened
The company, founded by former robotics engineer Manthan Pawar, said its software focuses on the picking‑and‑packing stage of logistics rather than building hardware. Pawar, who holds a master’s in robotics from NYU Tandon and has eight years in U.S. supply‑chain roles, told TechCrunch the firm’s mindset is to solve customer problems directly and aims to be cash‑flow positive by year‑end.
What the reports add
TechCrunch reported that Destro’s approach differs from most new robotics firms, which typically chase novel form factors or train AI models for metal hands. Instead, Destro provides a “layer” that tells robots what to do and also instructs human staff, creating a shared operational page.
What was said
“A lot of robotics companies started from robotics engineers [asking] ‘What cool things I can do?’ One of the biggest reasons we are winning against robotics companies is because we are not a robotics company,” Pawar told TechCrunch.
“Our mindset is, we know our customers’ problems so damn well, and we are actually on path to be cash flow positive at the end of this year,” Pawar added.
Richard Brunelle, director of automation for the American logistics group at Yusen Logistics, said his role spans about 30 U.S. facilities and that his company uses fixed automation while piloting new tech such as trailer‑unloading robots. Brunelle noted that Destro’s focus on picking and packing matched his own cross‑docking challenges, prompting the partnership.
How it came about
Destro’s seed funding and product concept were shaped through discussions with Brunelle, whose Yusen Logistics subsidiary in the UK already operates a fully autonomous facility and is planning a similar U.S. site. The collaboration highlighted that the core logistics problem—sorting goods for outbound trucks—is fundamentally the same for both robots and humans, leading Destro to develop its AI coordination layer.
