Delhi court issues bailable warrant for Dhruv Rathee

The warrant follows a failed dasti service attempt as Rathee's residence was locked, with the matter set for hearing on Oct. 31.

A Delhi court on Saturday issued a bailable warrant against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a criminal defamation case filed in 2018 by Vikas Pandey, after fresh summons could not be served because Rathee's house was locked.

The Saket Courts, apprised that the dasti service attempt – permitted earlier this month – was unsuccessful, listed the matter for further hearing on Oct. 31.

The case stems from Rathee's video titled “BJP IT Cell Part 2”, which Pandey alleges defamed him. The video was retweeted by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal in 2018; Kejriwal later told the Supreme Court he regretted the retweet.

Pandey, founder of the “I Support Narendra Modi” page, claims the retweet tarnished his reputation. Rathee, who ordinarily resides in Austria, has repeatedly avoided summons, with the complainant saying his prolonged absence from India delayed proceedings.
