Mauri Tapia, the 26‑year‑old frontman of SoCal indie rock group Los Retros, was arrested on Oct. 8 and charged with four felony counts of unlawful acts with a child under the age of 10, according to court records cited by the Los Angeles Times.
Tapia, a Moorpark resident, was booked in Ventura County Superior Court on Oct. 17 and held on $3 million bail; he has not entered a plea. The charges include special allegations that the alleged victim was vulnerable and that Tapia abused a position of trust.
Los Retros, known for blending vintage Mexican ballads with indie rock, had recently performed at Coachella and was slated for the Stones Throw 30th anniversary festival. Stones Throw Records issued a statement saying it is disassociating from Tapia and has cancelled his scheduled performance.
