Central Asian Flyway Digital Hub launched to aid migratory bird conservation
The hub aims to improve knowledge sharing, education and collision monitoring for migratory birds across Central Asia and South Asia.

The Central Asian Conservation Network (CACN) announced the launch of a Central Asian Flyway Digital Hub, a new online platform intended to strengthen knowledge sharing for the conservation of more than 600 migratory bird species that use the flyway spanning northern Eurasia to South Asia.
What happened
The Digital Hub was unveiled in a statement released on 9 October 2026. It aggregates information on migratory bird species, key flyway sites, ongoing conservation projects, and educational resources. A dedicated Bird Collision Reporting Portal will allow users to log incidents of birds killed or injured by power lines, wind turbines and other infrastructure.
What the reports add
The downtoearth article notes that the hub will also host portals for recording sightings of marked birds, expanding beyond scientific databases to reach teachers, children, birdwatchers and the wider public. It highlights a specific educational story, “Selenge, the Little Goose and Her First Migration,” which follows a Bar‑headed Goose and introduces readers to wetlands along the flyway.
What was said
"The Central Asian Flyway is a vast and complex system, and conservation depends on people and organisations being able to share knowledge and act collaboratively across borders. The Digital Hub is designed to bring core knowledge together and make it accessible to a much wider community," said Taej Mundkur, Science & Policy Advisor at CACN and Senior Advisor at Wetlands International, as reported by downtoearth.
"We wanted the Digital Hub to make information about migratory birds accessible beyond the scientific community. Educational materials can help children and communities understand these remarkable journeys and the importance of protecting the places birds depend on along the way," said Khurshed Alimov, Co‑chair of CACN.
