The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced that about two million migratory birds use the country as a stop‑over on the African‑Eurasian flyway each year. In a post on X, the ministry said the birds find a safe haven while crossing the UAE’s skies.
Under the National Biodiversity Strategy 2031, the UAE aims to restore 80 % of degraded land and marine areas and to conserve at least 20 % of ecosystems for migratory species. The ministry highlighted ongoing habitat preservation, monitoring programmes and the protection of nature reserves.
Internationally, the UAE was among the first to sign the 2008 Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey and joined the 2016 Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals. It also secured ten sites under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
