UAE movers and recovery firms weigh extra diesel cost after October price hike
Freight operators say the October diesel increase adds up to Dh7‑Dh25 per round‑trip, but none have raised customer fees yet.

Freight and car‑recovery operators in the UAE are quantifying the impact of the diesel price increase that took effect on Oct 1, when diesel rose by 50 fils to Dh4.80 per litre, according to Khaleej Times.
What happened
Moving trucks that transport furniture between Sharjah and Dubai must travel 40‑50 km back empty after delivering a load. The round‑trip distance therefore reaches 80‑100 km. With diesel now costing Dh4.80 per litre and fuel consumption ranging from four to seven kilometres per litre, operators estimate an extra cost of Dh7 to Dh17 for a typical moving job.
Car‑recovery trucks that travel 100‑150 km for a stranded‑vehicle call face a similar increase, adding roughly Dh8‑Dh25 per trip depending on the vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
What the reports add
Freelance mover Zeeshan Khan, based in Sharjah, said he has not yet passed the added expense to customers, noting that he will monitor monthly costs and may share the burden if total expenses exceed Dh200 per job.
Recovery operator Rafiq, also in Sharjah, echoed the same stance, confirming that no price changes have been applied to customers while the firms assess the monthly fuel impact.
What was said
“When we have to go a long distance, around 40 to 50 kilometres, we have to return empty‑handed… The extra fuel cost of the return journey becomes a loss for us,” Khan told Khaleej Times.
“We have not added anything to the customer’s bill. We are still checking how much extra fuel we are using every month,” Rafiq said.
How it came about
The diesel hike follows a broader increase announced by the UAE Fuel Price Committee, which lifted diesel to Dh4.80 per litre – the highest level in years – prompting logistics executives to warn of rising delivery fees, as reported in Felo News earlier on Oct 3.
