Trump claims Kim Jong Un likes him and defends North Korea’s nuclear programme

The former U.S. president blamed President Biden for the nuclear issue and said Kim respects him.

Donald Trump told reporters that he is the only world leader Kim Jong Un likes, downplaying North Korea’s nuclear programme. He blamed President Joe Biden for not confronting the issue and said Kim’s “pretty large” nuclear capacity would be restrained as long as Trump is around.

Trump added that Kim “does not like a lot of other people” and that his friendship keeps the regime in check. He said the North Korean leader respects him and that the situation would be fine while he is present.

The comments came a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed North Korea was preparing to send 10,000 troops to support Russia, and after reports that Trump has urged aides to arrange a summit with Kim during an upcoming APEC trip to China.
