U.S. President Donald Trump used his United Nations General Assembly address on Sept. 22 to argue that his administration had stopped Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and warned he could "annihilate the Islamic Republic" if no peace deal is reached, Reuters reported.
Trump posed a choice to the audience: a deal that would let Iran rebuild, or an immediate annihilation that would prevent further attacks, he said. He later told reporters that U.S. officials had a three‑hour meeting with Iranian mediators, and that special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had a productive discussion with those mediators.
Since taking office for a second term, Trump has highlighted a diplomatic agenda that includes meetings with leaders of Britain, Ukraine and Japan, while emphasizing U.S. actions in Venezuela and a proposed strike on Greenland.
