Karnataka Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi told New Indian Express on Oct. 7 that the Union Government should increase the sugarcane Minimum Support Price (MSP) and fix it at Rs 6,000 per tonne, stressing that the state has no power to set the price. He said Karnataka has already submitted a draft request to the Centre but has not received any invitation to discuss it. Jarkiholi added that the process will start only after an agreement between sugar factories and farmers, and that the state will attend a meeting if invited. He also commented on ongoing electoral‑roll revisions, saying legal action is possible against false deletion applications and that no eligible voter’s name has been removed in Belagavi.
