Sue Devaney to exit Coronation Street after dementia storyline

The long‑running soap will see Devaney’s character Debbie Webster killed off next year.

By Felo News Desk · Published

Actress Sue Devaney, who has played Debbie Webster on ITV’s Coronation Street since 2019, confirmed that she will leave the show in 2027. The decision follows a 2025 storyline that sees her character suffer from dementia and ultimately be killed off. Devaney said she had planned to stay on the soap for the rest of her career, but the plot has shortened her tenure. She added that she was shocked when she learned of the decision, describing the experience as “very sad and then furious and then upset again”. The actress hopes the storyline will raise awareness of dementia, echoing the impact of a previous MND storyline on the series. Devaney will film her final scenes in August 2027.
