What the reports add

The Hollywood Reporter noted that the series is based on Yarros’ 2023 New York Times bestseller, the first book of her Empyrean series, which also includes Iron Flame (2023) and Onyx Storm (2025). Variety added that the series was ordered by Amazon Prime Video in May 2026 after the book’s synopsis was reviewed. Both outlets mentioned that the story follows Violet’s forced enrollment in the Basgiath War College, where candidates compete to become dragon riders.
