U2 announced on Oct. 15 that it will return to stadiums in 2027 for the "Carnaval De Luz Presents: The Greatest Show on Earth" world tour, with Beck opening the six Latin American shows.
What happened
The tour launches in Mexico City on Feb. 23 at Estadio GNP Seguros, followed by a second night on Feb. 26. The band then travels to São Paulo, Brazil, for shows at Estádio Morumbi on Mar. 10 and 12, and to Buenos Aires, Argentina, for performances at Estadio River Plate on Mar. 23 and 25. Dates for Europe and North America have not yet been disclosed.
What the reports add
Billboard notes that the tour name is meant as a challenge to deliver "the best night of anybody’s life," and that the band promises a "riot of colour, unreasonable guitar, bass and drums, and tunes you can hold onto." The outlet also reports that Beck will open all six announced concerts.
What was said
In a joint statement, U2 said, "The Greatest Show on Earth? Now that’s a throwdown… It’s a dare, to ourselves as much as anyone, to try and have the best night of anybody’s life." Billboard attributed the quote to the band.
How it came about
The announcement coincides with the release of the new single "The Greatest Show on Earth," the third track from the forthcoming album Carnaval De Luz, due Nov. 13. The song, co‑written with Brian Eno, explores a strained romantic relationship and is accompanied by a video directed by Anton Corbijn. The album also features collaborations with Martin Garrix, Daniel Lanois, Ryan Tedder and a duet with Dolly Parton.
