Co‑creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko announced a fourth Avatar animated series, Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, during the Avatar: Seven Havens panel at New York Comic Con on Oct. 9, 2026, Mashable reported.

What happened

The panel revealed that the new show will jump back in time to follow Kuruk, a waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe who preceded Kyoshi, Roku and Aang. Images shown depict a younger Kuruk engaging in waterbending, surfing, and accompanied by a koala‑otter‑like creature.

What the reports add

Mashable noted that Kuruk previously appeared in the original series and related novels, and is known for his conflict with the spirit Koh, who stole his fiancée Ummi. The preview suggests a fresh look at Kuruk before his famed battle with Koh.

What was said

DiMartino and Konietzko did not provide direct quotes in the coverage, but their presence confirmed the series’ direction, according to Mashable.

How it came about

The announcement follows the recent renewal of Avatar: Seven Havens for Seasons 3 and 4, also disclosed at the same NYCC panel.
