On 20 October 2026 three of South Africa’s largest banks – First National Bank (FNB), WesBank and Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) – announced the launch of Nav. energy, an integrated renewable‑energy platform aimed at simplifying access, financing and implementation of clean‑energy projects for businesses.

Nav. energy will bundle funding, technical expertise, delivery partners and flexible ownership models. The platform’s CEO, Muneer Ismail, said the banks have spent years building scalable capabilities and now want to make them “simple to use” for a broader client base.

RMB, which has supported renewable projects for 14 years, disclosed that 76 % of its R53.5 billion infrastructure lending was renewable‑energy related as of 30 June 2025, amounting to over R46 billion in loans. WesBank, FNB Energy Solutions and Acacia will provide behind‑the‑scenes funding and expertise.

Future enhancements are planned, including energy calculators, system‑sizing tools and a supplier directory, to help firms manage costs, build resilience and meet sustainability goals.
