The new system, called SSDS+, supports tokenised debt securities, including sukuk, and connects to the real‑time payment network.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) announced the launch of a distributed‑ledger‑based platform for issuing and holding tokenised bonds, according to Cointelegraph.
What happened
The platform, named the next‑generation Scripless Securities Depository System (SSDS+), tracks ownership and transfers of tokenised securities and links to the Real Time Electronic Transfer of Funds and Securities (RENTAS+) system to settle payments in central‑bank money. BNM said the system is ready for wholesale issuance and can also support tokenised government and corporate retail bonds.
What the reports add
Cointelegraph noted that the rollout follows BNM’s three‑year asset‑tokenisation roadmap unveiled in November 2025, which outlined pilots in Islamic finance, supply‑chain financing and programmable payments. Earlier in February, BNM tested ringgit stablecoins and tokenised bank deposits through its Digital Asset Innovation Hub, involving banks such as Standard Chartered, CIMB Group, Maybank and Capital A.
What was said
BNM said the platform “supports the issuance, depository and safekeeping of tokenised debt securities, including Islamic bonds known as sukuk.”
