Amazon MGM Studios announced on Tuesday a reorganization of its film division, appointing Julie Rapaport and Alana Mayo as co‑heads of film, production and development, according to internal memos reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
What happened
The studio’s output now exceeds 30 titles a year across theatrical and streaming platforms. Rapaport and Mayo will each oversee roughly half of that slate – about 15 films per year – and will report to Courtenay Valenti, the studio’s head of film, streaming and theatrical.
What the reports add
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Rapaport has been with Amazon MGM since 2015 and has been involved in projects such as Road House, Saltburn, Project Hail Mary and Verity. Variety adds that Rapaport was named head of movies in 2022. Both outlets report that Mayo will continue to lead Orion Pictures, a label she has overseen since 2020, with recent releases including Is God Is and Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. Variety further lists Mayo’s credited work on Oscar‑winning Women Talking, American Fiction, the nominated Nickel Boys, Bottoms, and Nia DaCosta’s Hedda.
What was said
Courtenay Valenti wrote in the memo, “Our output now spans more than 30 films a year across theatrical and streaming — growth that reflects the trust our studio has built with the creative community and the extraordinary work of our team.” She added, “To match that scale and drive even greater creative output, I am pleased to announce that Julie Rapaport and Alana Mayo will each serve as Head of Film, Production & Development, reporting to me.”
How it came about
The restructuring follows a period of rapid expansion for Amazon MGM Studios, which recently announced the upcoming release of Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Lizard Music’ slated for December 2027. The studio’s broader strategy of scaling both theatrical and streaming output aligns with earlier reports on its evolving slate and leadership changes.
