Roseanne Barr’s independently produced television series, titled Meemaw: A Modern‑Day Fable, is being pitched to distributors, according to co‑creator Allan Stephan, who told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
What happened
Stephan said representatives for the eight‑episode, 30‑minute series have been sending a trailer to interested parties and are in talks with “a few places.” He declined to name specific platforms. The show, filmed in Austin, follows a Texas prepper matriarch (played by Barr) as she plans a blowout bat mitzvah for her granddaughter. The cast includes Randy Quaid, Drea de Matteo, Omar Gooding, Doug Jones and Indy Bugg, with cameo appearances by Jon Lovitz, Tony Hinchcliffe and Kim Congdon.
What the reports add
Stephan highlighted the series’ focus on “struggling farmers” and described it as a “fable” rather than a sitcom, noting that animal characters appear in the storytelling. He also said Barr raised the first‑season money independently with help from her son, Jake Pentland, though he did not disclose funder details.
What was said
“We have a lot of nibbles right now,” Stephan told the outlet. He added, “They’re struggling farmers, where everybody is at today, especially farmers,” and explained the series aims to be “non‑partisan” and representative of all people.
