According to newindianexpress.com, Durgabati Rout, a 44‑year‑old resident of Brundabanpur village in Gondia block, Dhenkanal district, suffered a fall in her bathroom on Saturday night, lost consciousness and was declared brain‑stem dead.
She was taken to the district headquarters hospital, then referred to SCB in Cuttack, but her family moved her to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar before shifting her to Utkal Hospital, where she remained for four days and died on Thursday.
With her family’s consent, her kidney and liver were harvested for donation. The state government, noting the donation, granted her a full state‑honour cremation on Friday, attended by Dhenkanal ADM Ramesh Chandra Sethi, Additional SP Suryamani Pradhan, block officials and a contingent of armed police who provided a guard of honour. A large crowd gathered when her body reached Brundabanpur.
