Mike Flanagan used a Blumhouse panel at New York City Comic Con on Oct. 9 to promote his next completed project, The Exorcist: Martyrs, which he described as "the scariest movie I've ever made." The director, who recently saw his TV remake of Stephen King’s Carrie debut on Prime Video and is set to co‑write the DC‑inspired body‑horror film Clayface for an Oct. 23 theatrical release, said the new Exorcist entry adds a serial‑killer twist to the classic franchise that began in 1973. The trailer revealed Scarlett Johansson as NYPD Detective Julie Miller, hunting a killer called Father Sunday played by Jon Leguizamo, who incorporates Catholic iconography in his murders. The cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, Sasha Calle and Jacobi Jupe. The film is slated to open in theaters on Friday, March 12, 2027.
