Billy Evans defends “You Can See Everything” while describing Elizabeth Holmes as “insane”

Billy Evans, the partner of former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, appeared on the All‑In podcast on Oct. 16 to explain why a camera crew was allowed into their home before Holmes began serving an 11‑year sentence.

What happened

The three‑hour documentary You Can See Everything opened in U.S. theaters on Oct. 16 after premiering at Telluride and the New York Film Festival. The film follows Holmes in the weeks leading up to her 2023 prison entry and includes footage shot secretly in her San Diego home. Evans said the couple permitted the crew to film during the 34‑day period before Holmes reported to prison.

What the reports add

Variety reported that Evans has not yet seen the movie, despite its “universal acclaim and Oscar buzz.” Mashable provided background on Evans’ family‑owned hotel business and his MIT economics degree, noting he did not work in hospitality before meeting Holmes. The Independent highlighted four revelations from the documentary, including that Evans and Holmes have been together since 2017, share two children, and that their marital status remains unclear.

What was said

"[The context going in] is Elizabeth is facing an 11‑year sentence. She’s been prevented from speaking publicly in any way, shape or form and this would come out after that period in which she is now allowed to talk," Evans told Variety.

He added, "There’s been a lot of media produced on her. There’s been a lot of people who have told her story. That narrative is pretty ossified. The whole idea was here she is, see her and make up your own mind. It’s not to re‑litigate the case."

Evans also said, "Practically, at this time she was not allowed to talk about the case, so she was gonna follow the rules and not talk about the case. It was to have people see who she is."

How it came about

The documentary’s secret filming was detailed in Felo News’ earlier coverage of the L.A. screening on Oct. 7, where co‑director Lance Oppenheim confirmed Holmes and Evans had not yet seen the film (you‑can‑see‑everything‑documentary‑screening). Earlier Felo pieces also noted the film’s R rating for graphic nudity (elizabeth‑holmes‑documentary‑r‑rating) and its premiere at the New York Film Festival (nathan‑fielder‑elizabeth‑holmes‑documentary‑premiere).
