“You Can See Everything,” the three‑hour documentary co‑directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, premiered on Wednesday at the New York Film Festival, Independent reported.
What happened
The film, which first screened at the Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 6, opened at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, with tickets sold out for an 8 p.m. showing. Audiences began queuing as early as 3 a.m. to attend.
What the reports add
Independent noted that the documentary was filmed secretly over three years and captures Holmes during the 34 days before she reported to prison in May 2023. The filmmakers lived in a guest house at Holmes’s Del Mar, California, beach home and recorded her daily life with partner Billy Evans and their two children.
What was said
Fielder told an audience after the screening, “I am still struggling to this day to understand what I went through,” and added, “I wouldn’t think I’d be the person you would want for your final 34 days of freedom. I’m not the most comforting.”
How it came about
Holmes, convicted on four felony counts of fraud and conspiracy, entered a Texas prison in May 2023. Earlier this month she agreed to let Fielder and Oppenheim film her life, a decision that led to the secret three‑year shoot. A24 will release the documentary nationwide on Oct. 16.
