Paramount Pictures is releasing the video‑game adaptation Street Fighter in more than 3,500 North American theaters on Friday, while 20th Century Studios opens the survival thriller Whalefall in 3,065 locations and A24 launches the Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything in roughly 800 venues.
Paramount projects a domestic opening in the mid‑$30 million range and a similar figure internationally for Street Fighter, which carries an $82 million production budget split evenly between Legendary Pictures and Capcom. The film holds a 43 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and The Hollywood Reporter’s Frank Scheck called it a “jumbled tonal mess” that is “only sporadically entertaining.”
20th Century Studios expects Whalefall to earn between $10 million and $12 million on its opening weekend. The survival thriller, based on Daniel Kraus’s 2023 novel, was made for $60 million and stars Austin Abrams as a scuba diver swallowed by a sperm whale. It has a 70 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and THR chief critic David Rooney wrote that the movie is “just not batshit crazy enough to be much fun.”
A24’s documentary follows Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in the weeks before she began her prison sentence. The film, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, is budgeted at $5 million and is projected to bring in about $7 million domestically. It has earned a perfect 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with THR’s Angie Han describing it as “smart, funny and full of surprises.”
