LDV South Africa pushes electric bakkies with fleet‑focused strategy

CEO Gerhard Moolman says LDV will grow its South African fleet market with a new utility bakkie and upcoming electric models.

LDV South Africa’s chief executive Gerhard Moolman told Watts & Wheels that the brand is focusing on fleet owners willing to replace five vehicles with a single LDV model. Moolman, who assumed the role in March after 23 years with Land Rover dealer groups, said the company’s slow start since its 2024 launch has been "written off" and that the first half of 2026 sales already exceed the full‑year 2025 total. The latest shipment of just over 200 vehicles was sold before it docked, and one fleet customer has placed an order for 50 more units. LDV now offers close to ten nameplates, including the T60 double‑cab and the newly launched T60 Utility single‑cab priced from R299 900. While the current range is diesel‑only, electric double‑cabs are slated for certification testing, and Moolman expects fleets on fixed 200 km routes to prefer smaller, lighter batteries.
