Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Saturday that the window to avoid imposing emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is closing, during an informal press interaction in Islamabad.

He asked reporters to question Maulana Fazlur Rehman about his role in averting the measure and noted that a federal cabinet meeting was scheduled for Sunday morning to seek final approval.

The report adds that President Asif Ali Zardari chaired a high‑level meeting on the issue, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other ministers. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi told television viewers that governor’s rule could cover the whole province, while emergency rule might be limited to selected districts. Kundi also warned that authorities could arrest anyone committing illegal acts, including Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, and said some PTI members were in hiding or voluntarily seeking arrest.
