Jonathan Castagna debuted for the Calgary Flames on Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche and was immediately called “George” by his teammates, a nickname inspired by the Seinfeld character George Costanza, Daily Hive reported.
Head coach Ryan Huska explained that the nickname stuck even though Castagna has never seen the show. “We call him George, you can probably understand why,” Huska said, adding that the rookie was surprised when he first heard it.
During his first game, Castagna recorded an assist on a first‑period goal by Adam Klapka, while his family watched from the stands. He later said he tried to “soak it in” and was “really happy” about the assist.
