Sir Elton John, the 79‑year‑old former chairman of Watford FC, posted on Instagram on 11 October 2026 that he is "very upset and disappointed" by the club’s recent decline after a 4‑0 defeat to Burnley at Vicarage Road.
What happened
Watford lost 4‑0 to Burnley on Saturday, a result that marked their fifth loss in six Championship matches and left them just one point above the relegation zone. Manager Alessio Dionisi said he was "sorry" after the defeat, noting the team’s poor performance in both halves.
What the reports add
The Daily Mail article notes that the Hornets were booed by supporters at full‑time and that Dionisi criticised the team’s attitude, saying there is no single standout player and that balance is lacking.
What was said
Elton John wrote, "As a lifetime supporter of Watford FC, I am very upset and disappointed at the decline over the past few weeks. I really feel for the other supporters who have to watch this," as reported by the Daily Mail. Dionisi told the club’s Instagram live post, "It's difficult to speak about it after a 4‑0 loss, because I'm not happy about the first half, and I'm not happy about the second half," and added that the problem lies with the team’s attitude and balance.
