Fincher trims 60 pages from Tarantino’s Cliff Booth sequel

Fincher says the first draft was 230 pages and the final cut runs about two hours and 20 minutes.

Variety reported that director David Fincher has cut roughly 60 pages from Quentin Tarantino’s original screenplay for the upcoming sequel, "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth," starring Brad Pitt.

Fincher told Empire that the first draft he read was 230 pages, describing it as "essentially two movies." He explained that the final version runs about two hours and 20 minutes, focusing more on character interactions in 1977 Hollywood than on plot mechanics.

According to the article, Tarantino handed directing duties to Fincher after deciding not to direct the project himself, citing a desire to avoid making a sequel as his potential final film. Pitt, who previously worked with Fincher on "Se7en," "Fight Club" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," will reprise his Oscar‑winning role as stuntman Cliff Booth.

Fincher said the adaptation required balancing the interests of Brad Pitt, himself and Tarantino, likening the process to finding a Venn diagram of shared goals. Tarantino, also quoted in the piece, described the script as having the flavor of an Elmore Leonard paperback rather than a "hangout" movie like the original "Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood."

The sequel is set for an exclusive two‑week global IMAX run beginning Nov. 25, followed by a Netflix premiere on Dec. 23.
