Actor Richard E Grant has rejected claims that he deliberately revealed his traitor status on the opening episode of BBC’s Celebrity Traitors to exit the programme early. In an Instagram story posted on Tuesday, Grant called the suggestion “categorically false” and said he was a genuine fan of the show.
During the first round‑table, Grant announced he was a traitor, leading to his immediate banishment. The Sun later reported that some production staff suspected the slip‑up was staged to shorten his filming time. Grant said he believed his comment would be taken as a joke and described the early confession as a “catastrophically idiotic thing to do”. He also noted his daughter had warned him he would be “slaughtered” because he could not hide his feelings.
Other contestants, including fellow traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster, voted to banish him. The seventh episode is scheduled to air on BBC at 8 pm on Thursday, with the series finale set for 30 October.
